President

Jonathan Thompson, an alumnus of the Newport News Apprentice School, brings over a quarter-century of experience in the marine industry. His expansive career encompasses a diverse array of management roles, including project management, contracts, program management, and manufacturing. Joining IMIA in 2018, Jonathan has been instrumental in transforming the company from a specialized paint contractor into a comprehensive turnkey solutions provider. Under his guidance, IMIA has broadened its service portfolio to include an array of non-preservation solutions, such as intricate structural repairs, pipe repairs and installations, mechanical work, and radiological remediation, thereby enhancing the company’s value proposition and industry standing.

Vice President of Operations

Mike Hood, a seasoned professional with over three decades of expertise in the marine painting industry, has a career rooted in hands-on experience. Starting as an apprentice blaster/painter at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS, Mike has developed a deep understanding of the industry from the ground up. His extensive background encompasses key areas such as production management, quality control, estimating, project planning, and contract management. This breadth of experience, combined with his practical knowledge, positions him as a pivotal asset in driving operational excellence and innovation in the field.

Matthew Rhinehart

Senior Vice President, Programs and Strategic Growth

Matthew Rhinehart joined IMIA as Senior Vice President of Programs and Strategic Growth in August of 2025 and brings with him more than 30 years of experience in engineering, business development, strategic intelligence, innovation, and technology.  In his new role in IMIA, he will guide the strategic growth of the company and support IMIA’s special programs. Prior to joining IMIA, Matthew’s strategic work experience includes supporting clients in winning more than $10 Billion in contract work, creating an in-house Proposal Center of Excellence, and leading a software team responsible for machinery control systems on the Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ships.  Matthew holds degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, and certificates in competitive intelligence, proposal development, project management, and creative thinking.

David Gulick

Senior Vice President, Business Units

David Gulick joined IMIA in August of 2025 and brings with him more than 20 years of leadership and management expertise in demanding and challenging positions.  As a seasoned operations executive, in his new role in IMIA, David will guide the operations of IMIA’s nationwide Business Units and their teams. Prior to joining IMIA, David’s operational excellence in global manufacturing included senior leadership roles at top-tier suppliers of drivetrain and flow-control technologies, serving industries such as mining, chemical processing, energy, and maritime where he was responsible for executing large-scale manufacturing programs and cross-functional projects.  David is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and former U.S. Army officer. He takes great pride in cultivating high-performance teams that operate through alignment around shared goals.

Ben Fonville, a graduate of Longwood University, brings more than 20 years of distinguished experience in the ship repair industry. He began his career in engineering, focusing on submarine projects, and later specialized in dimensional control and critical alignments. With extensive hands-on experience in shop operations, fabrication, and project management, Ben has built a strong and versatile foundation in the industry. Since joining IMIA in 2020, he has played a key leadership role, spearheading numerous initiatives that have strengthened operational excellence and enhanced the company’s ability to deliver exceptional support to customers nationwide.
